X Plan Grants
The University Grants Commission, New Delhi, is very much impressed with the performance and services of Kakatiya University and allocated an amount of Rs. 3.85 crores to the University during the X Plan period. The following is the item-wise allocation of Rs. 3.85 crores
Schemes Sanctioned
The Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi, has identified the Departments of Botany, Chemistry and Pharmacy of Kakatiya University under FIST and sanctioned an amount of Rs. 93.00 lakhs to implement the scheme for a period of five years. The UGC, New Delhi, identified the Departments of Botany, Pharmacy and Economics at the DRS level under Special Assistance Programme (SAP) and sanctioned an amount of Rs. 80.00 lakhs to implement the schemes.
Apart from the above, the Centre for Women’s Studies and the Yoga Centre are established in the University with the financial assistance by the UGC. The Commission has recently sanctioned three new schemes to the University for the benefit of SC/ST students for a period of three years:
A Special Development Grant of Rs. 70.00 lakhs was also sanctioned to the University under the Scheme of Special Development Grant for Universities in Backward Areas and also released an amount of Rs. 25.00 lakhs.
Research Programmes
The research programmes are being implemented as per the time frame. An amount of Rs. 243.00 lakhs has been received from other funding/supporting agencies like UGC,CSIR, DST, DBT, AICTE, DRDO, MHRD, Planning Commission, ICSSR and ICHR for various research programmes of the faculty and scholars. About 65 research scholars/students are pursuing their research/PG course with the financial assistance received from UGC, CSIR, ICHR, AICTE, and DST. Apart from these there are about 28 Project Fellows/Associates working under the Major Research Schemes sanctioned by different funding agencies to the teachers of University departments. The amount sanctioned by the UGC for research activities and internet connectivity through inflibnet and INFONET programmes is Rs.10.00 lakhs. We have taken up the Campus Networking connecting all the departments and administrative offices with a total outlay of Rs. 20.00 lakhs sanctioned by UGC.
The centres established during the IX Plan period are further strengthened with financial assistance in X plan for Yoga Centre, Centre for Women Studies and Coaching Centre for Minorities, Telangana Studies Centre amounting to Rs.60.00 lakhs.
Developmental Activities
The University completed the construction of the following buildings with the financial assistance from the UGC, New Delhi during the IX Plan period.
The construction activity of Office of the Dean, College Development Council, Student Support Services Block of School of Distance Learning and Continuing Education and classrooms at University PG College, Subedari were completed with a total outlay of 71.00 lakhs. The New Block at SDLCE was inaugurated by His Excellency Sri Sushilkumar Shinde, Hon’ble Governor of AP on December 23, 2004. The construction of the following structures is in progress during the X Plan period with the total cost of more than Rs. 2 crores.
With the financial assistance from UGC, New Delhi:
Under the scheme of “Special Grant for Universities in Backward Areas” the following construction works will be taken up shortly with a total outlay of Rs. 70.00 lakhs from the UGC and Rs.5 lakhs from the University.
From the internal resources and self-finance courses building for Examination Branch and extension of Department of Bio-technology and Department of Microbiology are being taken up. The construction of the following buildings has been commenced with the U.G.C. Assistance, University funds and/or MP-LADS and the assistance given by District Administration and also using University funds:
In addition to the above buildings, with the Special Grant of Rs.70.00 lakhs from State Government, the Academic Building at Kothagudem has also been constructed. The University Post-Graduate College at Karimnagar is celebrating its Silver Jubilee this year. To mark this occasion, construction of a Silver Jubilee Block will be taken up with a grant of Rs.15 lakhs from the District Collector of Karimnagar and Rs.10 lakhs from the Development Grants of the University.
