Established in 1976, it offers the post-graduate course in Zoology, PG diploma in Sericulture and doctoral programme. The major thrust areas of research are cytogenetics, pharmones, fisheries, wild life biology, toxicology, entomology, enzymology, environmental pollution, ericulture, helminthological, etc. The research facilities available in the departments include animal house, museum, etc. The Department has been practicing novel teaching methods from its inception and is known for experienced and talented faculty. It has generated funds through research project to the tune of Rs 8.0 lakhs since 2000. The department has proposals to introduce novel innovative programme, the multidisciplinary PG Diploma Course in Biomaterials. Three teachers bagged Best Teacher Award by the State Government. They faculty has guided about 300 theses for Ph.D. and more than 150 scholars are pursuing their research in different fields of Zoology and Sericulture.The department organized 10 national seminars and also two refresher courses for the college teachers.
