Started in 1984, it currently offers M.A. (History), Master of Tourism Management, M.Phil. and Ph.D. Research programmes. Master of Tourism Management was started in 1999. The department has a collection of 4000 books in the departmental library. It has brought out a book for the tourists “Discover Warangal: A Tourist Delight” and a journal, the Kakatiya Journal of Historical Studies.' So far 24 Ph.Ds and 51 M.Phils and a Post-doctoral fellowship are awarded.The Department developed a moderate museum consisting of pottery, artifacts and tools ranging from the Neolithic age to the early historic period and coins from the Kakatiya period to the modern.
