Seminars and Workshops

The Department has organized a number of seminars, symposia and workshops. Mention may be made of the following:

1. Seven-day Refresher Course in English for College English Teachers (1979) in collaboration with the British Council.
2. UGC National Seminar on “Modern Indian Aesthetic Thought” (1983) meant to be a kind of orientation for the uninitiated in this field.
3. Workshop on “Creative Writing and Translation” (1989) for 3 days.
4. Workshop on “Situational English” (1990) for 2 days.
5. International Seminar on “Indian Literatures and Films” (1992) brought together writers, film directors and critics.
6. Workshop on “Canadian Literature” (1994) in collaboration with Indian Association for Canadian Studies, New Delhi, to provide orientation to students and researchers in this new area.
7. UGC National Seminar on “New Directions in English Language” (1995).
8. Interdisciplinary Seminar on “Dalit Writings, Movements and Dynamics of Social Change” (1996) organized in collaboration with the Department of Sociology.
9. UGC National Seminar on “The Study of Contemporary Society: Emerging Trends” (1996) at University Post Graduate College, Nirmal.
10. Seminar on “Perspectives on Women’s Writings in English” (1997).
11. Remedial Course in English (1998).
12. Inter-disciplinary Seminar on “The World of Subalterns in Mahasveta Devi’s Writings” (1998).
13.  National Seminar on “The Teaching of English in the Era of IT Revolution and  
     Globalization: Challenges Ahead” (1999).
14. Workshop on “Translation of Regional Literatures into English” (1999).
15.  UGC National Seminar on “New Indian English Novel” (2001).
16.  UGC National Seminar on “Expatriate Indian Writing in English” (2005).        
17.  Workshop by Prof Susan Hallam, Head, School of Life Long Education and
     International Development, University of London, United Kingdom. (2006).
18. “Train the Trainer” programme for Lecturers in English, sponsored by APSCHE,   

        Hyd. In 5 spells of 5 day duration each during 2005-06.

19. English Teachers’ Regional Conference on Social Justice through English   
     Education organized with the Students’ Welfare Centre, and Placement Cell,
     KU, Warangal 2007.
