BIO-DATA Prof. Boda Venkat Rathnam, Professor of Commerce and Business Management took charge as the twelfth Vice-Chancellor of the Kakatiya University, Warangal on 20th May, 2011. Prof. Venkat Rathnam is a senior faculty of Commerce & Business Management Department with 30 years of teaching and research experience. His areas of special interest include Human Resource management (HRM) and Organizational Behaviour (OB). Born as the last son of Smt. Ramulamma and Sri Muthaiah on 7th September, 1956, Prof. Venkat Rathnam hails from a poor agricultural family of Tekumatla village of Suryapet mandal, Nalgonda District. He completed his school education in the local school tekumatla, did Intermediate from Sri Venkateswara Junior College, Suryapet and B.Com. from N.G.College, Nalgonda. He completed his post graduation in Commerce - M.Com. in first division from Kakatiya University in 1980. He has been awarded with M.Phil. for his dissertation on “Performance of Regional Rural Banks – A Case study of Nagarjuna Grameena Bank” in 1985 and Ph.D. for his doctoral thesis on “Personal Policies and Practices in Selected State Undertakings of A.P.” in 1992 by Kakatiya University. While in service he completed LL.B. (Kakatiya University-1997), PG DCA (AP Productivity Council-1996), PG Diploma in Industrial Management & Human Resource Management (IGNOU-1997), M.Sc. (Psychology)(S.V.University-2002), PG Diploma in Guidance & Counselling – Anna University, 2003), M.A. (Sociology, Kakatiya University-2006) and BCJ (Kakatiya University – 2008). He joined Kakatiya University service as Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Commerce & Business Management on 18th September, 1982 and promoted as Reader (Associate Professor) in 1992 and became professor in 2010. Under his guidance five scholars have completed Ph.D. and eleven scholars M.Phil. research degrees. At present six scholars are working for their Ph.D. under his supervision. Apart from publishing twenty five research articles in journals of national and international repute, presented research papers in several conferences and one among them at Fifth Plan-Commonwealth Forum on Open Learning at University of London, UK. He authored/co-authored five books and was the Chief Editor of the Journal of Kakatiya University Business Review and is presently Editorial Board Member, International Journal of Department of Commerce, Osmania University, Hyderabad. He has successfully completed two research projects sanctioned by University Grants Commission and AICTE. Serving the department as Head, Chairman Board of Studies & Placement Coordinator, Prof. Venkat Rathnam strived for the its development. He held many important administrative positions such as Dean, Academic Affairs, Director, University Hostels, Development Officer, Vice-Principal, University Arts & Science College, Secretary, University Sports Board, Director of SC/ST Cell and contributed his mite to the overall progress of the University. As a member, Prof. Venkat Rathnam is actively involved in activities of the All India Commerce Association, Indian Accounting Association, Indian Institute of Public Administration, A.P. Psychological Association. He is also a member of Visiting Team of AICTE, New Delhi, A.P.State Council of Higher Education, Hyderabad, Academic Senate, Standing Committee, Board of Studies in Commerce (DRBROU), College Development Council, Internal Quality Assurance Cell, SDLCE Governing Body, Sports Board of Kakatiya University. Besides an acclaimed academician, Prof. Venkat Rathnam is a also good sportsman. He lead the University Athletes team as Captain (KU - 1980), represented All India Inter-University Kabaddi Team (1980,1982), All India Inter-University Handball (Nagpur University-1980). Equally interested in cultural and recreational activities, he organized the State Level Literary and Cultural Programmes for Degree/PG Students at University Arts & Science College, Warangal in 1997.
